For bagel lovers, there’s nothing quite like biting into a perfectly chewy, crusty bagel. Metro Detroit is home to a variety of bagel spots that deliver quality and taste, from traditional boiled-and-baked bagels to more modern twists. Here’s a look at some of the area’s top bagel spots where you can enjoy this beloved breakfast staple…

NEW YORK BAGEL

6927 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield

Explore Metro Detroit in a vehicle built for discovery. Chevy Equinox combines sleek looks, maximum comfort and cutting edge entertainment to navigate your city in style.

19731 West 12 Mile Road, Southfield

While the name New York Bagel doesn’t feel very local, this family-owned bagel shop has been around for more than 100 years and is a staple in Metro Detroit. Their traditional bagels are dense, chewy, and baked to perfection, available in a wide variety of flavors, including pumpernickel, parmesan, and whole wheat. New York Bagel’s reputation for quality and consistency has kept regulars loyal for years. Pair one of their famous bagels with their homemade Lox spread or a classic schmear, and you’ll see why it’s a local staple for bagel enthusiasts.

EASTSIDE BAGEL

21601 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores

Eastside Bagel is a local gem known for serving up delicious, handmade bagels in a warm and welcoming setting. Their bagels are soft, fresh, and come in all the classic flavors, from plain and sesame to cinnamon raisin. Other flavorful choices include sweeter honey wheat, blueberry, chocolate chip, and cinnamon sugar, or more savory spinach asiago, Au gratin, feta, jalapeño, or sea-salt rosemary options. Eastside Bagel is especially loved for its selection of whipped cream cheeses (hello Michigan cherry almond!) and bagel sandwiches, which are perfect for a quick, satisfying breakfast or lunch. Their neighborhood vibe and extensive menu make you want to come back again and again.

ZINGERMAN’S BAKEHOUSE

3711 Plaza Drive, Ann Arbor

Zingerman’s Bakehouse has long been celebrated for its commitment to old-fashioned baking techniques, and its bagels are no exception. Known for “bigger holes, better crust, bigger flavor,” Zingerman’s bagels are made with a focus on quality and tradition. Marketing Manager Corynn Coscia describes them as a revival of the “old-fashioned bagel,” with dough that’s fermented for flavor, then boiled and baked on a stone hearth. Regularly available flavors include plain, Amazin’ Raisin, Enough Already (everything), Grand Poppy (poppy seed), and Sesame Street, among others. Keep an eye out for Special Bake flavors that pop up occasionally, like Roasted Onion and 9 is Fine Grain.
